Since its inception in
1975, the volunteer organization known as the
Northern BC Winter Games Society has had as its
purpose "to provide an opportunity for all
northern residents to compete in organized sport".
The Northern BC Winter Games
Society receives funding from the Minister
Responsible for Sport, through the BC Games
Society, to carry out its mandate.
The volunteers who make up the Board, oversee
the spending of those dollars by way of Host
Community operating grants and contributions to
assist participant travel.
The Board of
Directors of the Northern BC Winter Games
Society is a policy board, developing and
implementing polices for the operation of the
Society and the Northern BC Winter
Games.
BC
Games Society staff provide event management services,
resources, and assistance to the volunteers of Northern
BC Winter Games Host Communities.
They also are responsible to ensure that the
policies of the Northern B.C. Winter Games Society
are implemented and that the Games are planned
and operated in accordance with these
polices.
The
Northern BC Winter Games Society also
nominates a person to sit on the BC Games Society Board of
Directors as their representative.
Also vital to the
operation of the
Northern BC Winter Games Society are the Regional
Representatives. Regional Representatives
are members of the Society and together are a
committee of individuals throughout the north responsible for the
identification, registration, and transportation
of participants attending the Northern BC Winter Games.
