BC Games Society Congratulates Award Winners

At the annual Sport BC Athlete of the Year Awards ceremony last night in Richmond, BC Games athletes, volunteers, and organizations were recognized.

Eight BC Games alumni were nominated for individual awards and another 18 were members of the Team of the Year nominees.  Taking home top honors were alumni Maelle Ricker (Senior Female Athlete), Denny Morrison (Community Champion), Ray Carter (Daryl Thompson Award), and Christine Wong (Junior Female).  The UBC Women’s Volleyball Team, with seven BC Games alumni took home Team of the Year honours.

In 2010, the BC Games Society Board of Directors initiated the Wendy Ladner-Beaudry Sport Achievement Award to honour our former Co-Chair’s passion and influence for amateur sport.
This year, Triathlon BC was presented with the award for their proactive approach to increasing participation and opportunity for athletes, coaches, and officials around the province.
Triathlon BC President, Les Pereira accepted the award at a ceremony preceding the Athlete of the Year Awards.

The BC Games Society was proud to nominate Ross Tomlinson as the recipient of this year’s Presidents’ Award for his ongoing contributions as the Provincial Advisor for Basketball.  Ross is strong believer in the BC Games and he works hard to ensure this opportunity for athlete and coach development is utilized to the full extent.   For over 10 years, he has been an effective and efficient Provincial Advisor representing a sport that is a valued and trusted partner of the BC Games.

The BC Games is an important milestone in the development of athletes and contributes to building the capacity of the provincial sport system.  “It is a great source of pride to see athletes, volunteers, and organizations who are connected to the BC Games recognized for their significant accomplishments.” said Kelly Mann, President and CEO of the BC Games Society.
