While the benefits of the BC Summer and BC Winter Games include a strong economic impact, volunteer skill enhancement, and community development, sport is central to all Games. Sport is the reason we come together to stage BC Games year after year, throughout the province.
Within the Core Sport Criteria, the BC Summer and BC Winter Games bring the best young athletes together, before they move on to higher levels of competition. It is the hope that all BC athletes who progress to national and international competitions, do so with an BC Games experience in their past.
The Northern BC Winter Games, BC Seniors Games, and BC Disability Games provide opportunities for sport development and achievement to their respective constituents. Collectively the BC Family of Games create the opportunity for athletes at various levels to experience a multi-sport Games.

The BC Summer and BC Winter Games are competitive opportunities for sports and have been identified by the BC Games Society in conjunction with other agencies in the sport system, to be in the upper end of the Training to Train stage or in the Training to Compete stage of the Canadian Sport for Life (CSL) framework. For more information on the CSL, refer to the website: www.ltad.ca.
The BC Games are often the first multi-sport Games experience for athletes. After the BC Games many move on to become part of Team BC. For more information on Team BC, click here.
