The
BC Summer Games are held every second year in even calendar years
and are held in late July.
The BC Games Society
establishes the general rules for all sports and participants in
the Games. Sport-specific rules are established by the
respective Provincial Sport Organization in conjunction with BC
Games Society staff, and within the criteria of the BC Games
Society Core Sport Program. For details of the Core Sport
Program, click here.
Nineteen sports are included, bringing as many as 3,700
participants to the Host Community.
The BC Summer
Games are the heat of competition, and the warmth of a host
community’s hospitality. For four days each summer, as many as 3,700 of BC’s best athletes, coaches,
assistant coaches and managers, and officials
participate in 28 events in sports ranging from athletics and archery
to cycling, sailing, and wrestling..jpg)
With more
competitors than the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria,
it is up
to the team volunteers to ensure that everything runs smoothly -
from the lighting of the Games torch to the medal
presentations ceremonies to the sport competitions and the Closing Ceremony.
The BC Summer
Games bring together young developing athletes from every region
of the province. Competition may be the backbone of the Games, but
at its heart are camaraderie and friendship, the spirit of
teamwork and the setting of goals for individual excellence.
Everyone
goes home a winner with a personal legacy that only participation
in the BC Games can provide.
The spirit
of excellence thrives at the BC Summer Games. |
