More than
2,500 participants bring the cold temperatures to a boil in a
collective, annual celebration of winter and of sport.
These Games
give young, developing athletes the opportunity to improve their
skills on their way to higher levels of competition and to deal with the excitement, triumphs and
defeats of participating in a major multi-sport event.
British
Columbia is known for its winters and its winter sports. Many of
the athletes representing their province at the Canada Winter
Games honed their abilities at the BC Winter Games.
Athletes
compete in 21 sport events, including the classic winter sports of
alpine and cross-country skiing, speed skating, hockey and figure
skating. Other indoor events are also part of the winter sports
agenda, including fencing, karate, and gymnastics.
The spirit
of winter and sport are alive and well at the BC Winter Games.
The first
question that many potential competitors have is what are the
criteria to be eligible to participate in the Games. The answer to
this question is best found on the "Your
Sport" page within the particular sport that the
competitor is interested in.
