Bursary Information

Participants competing at the 2018 BC Winter Games are invited to apply for one of 16 (sixteen), $500 bursaries.  This bursary is intended to recognize youth who have achieved in sport and education but more importantly go above and beyond in their communities through leadership and volunteer activities.  The successful applicants must use the bursary to support future sport or educational expenses.

  • A maximum of 16 bursaries will be awarded.
  • A maximum of two bursaries will be awarded each of the eight BC Games zones.
  • Where applications warrant, bursaries will be awarded to eight males and eight females, one of each from each zone.
  • Successful Applicants:
    • Must be present at the Closing Ceremony of the 2018 BC Winter Games on February 25
    • Agree to have their name and image used in association with the award
    • Agree to appear at a Coast Capital Savings branch for an announcement and photo opportunity (if there is a branch located in their community).
    • Must use the bursary for education or sport related expenses

Application Requirements:

  • Applicants must be registered for, and attend, the Kamloops 2018 BC Winter Games, February 21-25.
  • Applicants must be registered for the Games as an athlete, coach, or official.  Applicants registered as a coach or official must be under 19 years of age.
  • Applicants must be a member in good standing with the applicable Provincial Sport Organization.
  • Applications must provide a reference letter as part of their online application submission (i.e. from a coach, teacher).
  • Submit an application by the deadline - February 7, 2018
Evaluation
Applications will be evaluated by a committee of BC Games Society and Coast Capital Savings representatives based on the following scale:
  • Volunteer and Leadership activities: 50%
  • Sport Achievement (results at the 2018 BC Winter Games will not be part of the evaluation): 30%
  • Education Achievement: 20%

Applicants will be notified on the decision of the committee by a date to be confirmed.
