BC Games Society Statement

Allegations of inappropriate behaviour by some male athletes directed towards a number of female athletes at the participant special event on Saturday evening of the Cowichan 2018 BC Summer Games are deeply troubling and we are taking this incident very seriously.  Immediate action was taken at the event and the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP were informed and are now investigating.

Without question, the well-being of these young women is of paramount importance and we are continuing to gather information and communicate with the athletes and their families to support them.  We acknowledge the courage of these young women to report this incident.

The BC Games Society is founded on the pillars of athleticism, spirit of sport, and respect. Our culture calls for inclusivity, respect, and accessibility.  Personal safety and well being are everyone’s expectations.

These athletes are adolescent youth and we collectively have a responsibility to ensure that each individual is aware and acts responsibly and respectfully and is supported in making good decisions. Bad behavior will not be tolerated.

If you need to contact the BC Games Society please send an email that will be treated confidentially to bcg@bcgames.org.  Or if you have additional information about the incident to share please contact the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP at 250-748-5522.
