Prince George 2022 BC Summer Games Looking for Key Staff

Prince George is going to welcome the 2022 BC Summer Games to our City on  July 21-24, 2022.  

The Prince George 2022 BC Summer Games Society with a Board of 14 Directorates has a role for a dynamic, enthusiastic, creative and experienced individual as OPERATIONS MANAGER. This is a full-time term position.

The Society is responsible for developing and implementing all the arrangements for the Games in Prince George, which involves about 2800 athletes and 700 coaches and officials.

The Operations Manager who will be supported by a small staff as well as volunteers will work with the Board Executive and the Directorates to help develop the Prince George 2022 BC Summer Games into a Community event to remember.

The individual will have strong demonstrated leadership skills with experience working with a non-profit Board on tight timelines and be a strong yet diplomatic leader.  The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, and ideally will have some experience in project and/or event management. 

The Operations Manager will be required to set up and maintain a well functioning Games office that will include an Information Centre with both phone-in and in-person help desk.

The successful applicant will develop a working knowledge of all aspects of the Games organization to facilitate effective and meaningful local support and guidance to participants - i.e. athletes, officials, coaches and the volunteers and the public. This will require the incumbent to participate in a variety of Board and Directorate meetings as the arrangements proceed in order to be familiar with and ensure progress in planning and implementation of the Games is coordinated and effective.

Operations Manager Position Description

General Outline
As the senior paid staff member for the Host Society reporting to the Director of Administration, the role provides support for and works with the President and Vice President of the Host Society along with the other 17 Board Members( 14 Directorates)  and up to 75 Directorate Chairs to facilitate processes and establish the Games office and its related public presence.

Specific Responsibilities
1.    Establish a Games office and engage support staff.
2.    Source funds through provincial and local grants for 5- 10 Directorate Assistants, recruit the Assistants, and establish schedules and work plans in conjunction with the Board and Directors.
3.    Create an atmosphere for the office as the supportive hub for volunteers.
4.    Establish an Information Centre including phone-in and in person help desk prior to and during the Games.
5.    Facilitate the ability for the “Games-time” operations to function from the office - (e.g. Access Control dispatch, distribution of technology equipment, medals etc. and storage of items).
6.    Nurture a positive and supportive atmosphere in the office and with Directors, Chairs, and Volunteers.
7.    Develop a working understanding of all aspects of the Games organization that facilitates providing support to participants – athletes, officials, coaches – and the volunteers and public.
8.    Provide support to the 14 Directorates which may include administrative support, spreadsheeted development and management, establishing and monitoring processes, booking facilities, coding and recording expenses, and a variety of other support initiatives related to the Games.
9.    Attend Board meetings and Directorate meetings as needed to stay on top of the overall planning to ensure communications between Directorates is robust and effective. Provide strong management oversight to ensure the Board and Directorates are aware of the interrelationship of Games planning needs and priorities and are kept abreast of the planning progress.
