Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal Awarded to Kelly Mann

The BC Games Society President and CEO, Kelly Mann, was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in a ceremony at in Victoria yesterday.  Premier Christy Clark presented the medal in recognition of Kelly's contribution to British Columbia through the BC Games and many volunteer activities.

The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal is a tangible way for Canada to honour Her Majesty for her service to this country. At the same time, it serves to honour significant contributions and achievements by Canadians.

After receiving his award Kelly expressed, “To be honoured in this way, for doing something that I am truly passionate about makes me so proud.  This recognition is really about the collective successes that are the BC Games.”

Throughout Kelly’s 20 years with the BC Games Society, his leadership has benefitted many staff, thousands of volunteers, and countless athletes and coaches as he has shepherded the BC Winter and BC Summer Games to over 80 communities.

As President and CEO, he has moved the BC Games from a participation model, to one of athlete, coach and sport development, often times ahead of the provincial and national curve in long term sport development.  He contributes enormously to the overall planning and success of BC’s sport sector, while helping share the Society’s numerous best practices nationally.

A Victoria resident, Kelly continues his contributions outside of the BC Games as he was one of three co-founders of KidSport Greater Victoria, a charitable organization which provides registration fees for financially disadvantaged children to play in a season of sport.  His love for sport and community is evident through his support of many agencies and organizations, and his involvement on Boards, working groups, or simply as a hands-on volunteer.

The Board of Directors and staff of the BC Games Society are proud to congratulate Kelly on this significant recognition and honour.
