BC Games Society teams up with WorldHost Training Services

The BC Games Society and internationally recognized WorldHost Training Services are teaming up to offer specialized training for BC Games volunteers.

Volunteers are the heart and soul of the BC Winter and BC Summer Games with over 3,000 people contributing to the planning and staging of every event.  The BC Games Society recognizes the importance of providing training opportunities for volunteers and partnering with the experts at WorldHost Training Services sets a new standard for the Games.

Kelly Mann, BC Games Society President and CEO, said, “This training will provide all volunteers with wonderful customer service skills, while helping them understand the value of sport and the BC Games.  Each trained volunteer then has a key skill to contribute back to their community, while remaining advocates for health and wellness through the vehicle of multi-sport Games.”

The BC Winter and BC Summer Games are a milestone event for participants, guests, spectators, and volunteers and it is a priority to ensure that everyone involved has a positive and memorable experience.

WorldHost Training Services is part of Destination British Columbia, an industry-led Crown Corporation that works collaboratively with stakeholders across the province to coordinate tourism marketing and promote the development and growth of the tourism industry in B.C.

WorldHost Training Services has been adopted across Canada and around the globe for some of the world’s biggest sporting events, including the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games,” stated Destination British Columbia Board Chair, Andrea Shaw. “We are truly honoured to develop specialized training for the BC Games Society and look forward to seeing the positive impact customer service training will have on the delivery of the Games, and in communities throughout the province, in years to come.”

The volunteers of the Mission 2014 BC Winter Games are the first to benefit from this program with over 80 key volunteers having attended the first session on May 25.  From now until February 2014, all registered volunteers will have the opportunity to attend a training session that will include information about the Games, the importance of sport and volunteerism, as well as specialized customer service training.
