On October 26, the BC Games Society met with our Provincial Sport Organization (PSO) partners to discuss the Games and the important relationship between our organizations.  35 of the 38 sport organizations involved in the BC Winter and BC Summer Games were represented.

This meeting highlighted the successes of the 2016 BC Winter and BC Summer Games and reviewed key information and expectations of the Provincial Sport Organizations.

“Thank you so very much to our PSO partners for taking the time to join us for our biennial information sharing session,” said Kelly Mann, President and CEO of the BC Games Society.  “The BC Games enjoys a strong and cooperative relationship with our PSO friends and this opportunity to hear your ideas and comments further cements that relationship.”

Bev Viger, Director of Sport from the Abbotsford 2016 BC Summer Games shared her thoughts on the important role the PSO plays in the Games and reiterated the importance of selecting a strong Sport Chair in the host community.  These individuals are the key link between PSOs and the community volunteers who are responsible to plan and stage the Games.

We were also pleased to welcome Robyn Hughes, Coaching and Sport Coordinator from viaSport, to share information about the Coach Mentorship program and encourage PSOs to consider taking part in 2018.

Kurt Innes, Director of Talent Development with Canadian Sport Institute Pacific, and a BC Games coach, presented an idea for discussion on how to use the BC Games as an opportunity to gain additional data and information about these young developing athletes.  This idea of athlete performance monitoring could assist PSOs and the individual athletes as they move through the athlete development pathway.

Group discussions focused on regional development, streamlining the registration process, coach mentorship, and other opportunities to enhance the experience of the athletes at the Games.

The sport packages for the 2018 BC Winter and BC Summer Games have been announced and work is already underway for PSOs to identify Provincial Advisors and key individuals to plan towards the next Games.
