British Columbia’s best young athletes will be taking a step toward future Winter Olympic Games as many of them compete at their first ever multi-sport event at the Terrace 2010 BC Winter Games. With an average athlete age of just over 13 years, these BC athletes are the best in their respective age categories and sports, and among them may be future Winter Olympians. BC Games alumni that recently competed at the Vancouver Olympics include gold medalists Maelle Ricker (snowboarding), Brent Seabrook (men’s hockey) and Denny Morrison (long track speedskating).

Representing eight zones across BC, the 2010 BC Winter Games feature 1100 athletes, 279 coaches, and 174 technical officials. As BC’s largest winter multi-sport event and showcase of athleticism, the BC Games inspire young athletes to pursue their athletic dreams.

The City of Terrace is excited about hosting participants from across the province. Sport competitions will take place at 14 venues throughout the Terrace and the neighbouring community of Kitimat. “Having the Games in Terrace showcases the passion this northern city has for sport. The almost 1600 volunteers will ensure the young athletes will be able to achieve their personal best.” said Kelly Mann, President and CEO of the BC Games Society

Check out www.bcgames.org for a list of participants and their home communities. Competition results, searchable by name, community, sport, and zone, will be available once competition begins on March 4th. The BC Games News Service, a team of volunteer writers and editors, will provide customized results, stories, and photographs to media in every region of BC.
