Dominant on both ends of the floor, Nick Bobek was quick to deflect the credit.
“We just listened to what the coaches said and boxed out,” the Burnaby native explained following his Vancouver Squamish team’s 32-13 victory over Fraser Valley at the UFV Envision Athletic Centre in the opening game of the Special Olympics basketball at the BC Winter Games on Friday morning.
“We got some pretty good coaching,” he added.
Bobek scored 13 points came up with a couple of blocked shots on the defensive end.
Vancouver Squamish trailed 4-3 after one quarter but led 11-8 at the half and then took control, outscoring Fraser Valley 21-5 in the second half to pick up the win.
But while winning was nice, Bobek said the key for the team was to have fun.
Alexander Blaschuk and Jaspreet Warach led Fraser Valley with four points apiece while Pierce Burns and Alexander Pang had four points each for Vancouver Squamish. Shane Carr also hit a three-pointer in the win.
