Gymnastics: Delta BC Games team takes gold with artistic performance

A "super consistent performance" from Zone 4's women's artistic gymnastics team took them to the gold podium at the BC Winter Games on Friday.

Five of the six members of the team – Sophie Anderson, Michelle Anderton, Sierra Chang, Rachel Pham, Ella Rogers – have worked for four or more years with head coach Jennifer Dober and assistant Kristina Sharp, both of the Delta Gymnastics club. The sixth team member is Nikita May of the Tag Sports Centre in Coquitlam.

"The team was confident and we had a lot of competitions under our belt," said coach Dober. "Ella Rogers was our top scorer, thanks to her floor performance."

Rogers, Anderson, Schultz, and Chang placed in the top-six, individually.

Zone 4's all around score total of 201.800 was closely followed by silver medal winner Zone 5's total of 200.550.

Zone 6 earned the bronze with a total score of 197.950.

Zone 4 women's artistic gymnastics team received the gold medals Friday: team members are Ella Rogers, Sophie Anderson, Darcy Schultz, Sierra Chang, Rachel Pham and Nikita May; coaches are Jennifer Dober and Kristina Sharp. Presenting the medals is Mission school board chair Edie Heinrichs.

Zone 5 (Vancouver-Squamish) received the silver medal in women's artistic gymnastics. Team members: Cheska Quejado, Sara Takagi, Rachael Ruben-Sarganis, Yoanna Nikolova, Charlotte Power, Bailee Nadin.

Zone 6 received the bronze medal in women's artistic gymnastics. Team members: Darby MacIntyre, Reese Wheeldon, Ekatrina Senilova, Sara Kearing, Kaylee Guignard, Janika Scribna, Keerstin Arden.
