Congratulations to BC Games Society Board Chair, Cathy Priestner Allinger, who has been nominated for a 2013 Women of Distinction Awards in the category of Health, Wellness & Athletics. 

 The nomination bio below is from the YWCA Metro Vancouver website:

Cathy Priestner Allinger
"The first Canadian woman to win an Olympic medal in speed skating, first woman appointed to lead sport in Olympic Games history and the lead author and founder of Own the Podium 2010, Cathy is a role model for all athletes and women in sport. Cathy generously volunteers her time and expertise to improve sport in BC as Chair of viaSport, Chair of the BC Games Society and Chair of the Special Olympics Canada 2014 Summer Games - Vancouver. For more than 30 years Cathy has been a champion for the transformative power of sport."

In addition to Cathy's nomination, five other women were nominated in the category have strong ties to the BC Games Society.

Nikola Girke - Athlete Alumna from 1993 BC Summer Games
Laura Watson - Volunteer Coach 2012 BC Winter Games
Kathy Newman - Attended multiple BC Games supporting BC Wheelchair Sports athletes
Wendy Pattenden - Valude partner of the BC Games Society through the Canadian Sport Institute

This incredible group of nominees have provided leadership and vision that has benefited the BC Games Society and the British Columbia sport system.
