Dojo team katas brought strong competition to both the girls and boys team kata portion of the Karate BC Games Saturday February 22 at Pitt Meadows Family Recreational Center.

Team katas differ from individual katas in that each member must keep in unison with their teammates power, speed, and presence.

Team kata members, Simonka Slizek, Jessica Michaud, Emily Jones, and Jeanine Looman, from Zone 2 of the Taneda Karate Dojo say they were excited to compete against the other teams.

“It was tough, but I was more nervous three days ago than I am now,” says Looman. “I suppose that’s because I’m here and I realize when I’m in the competition that I can do it, I feel confident.”

The girls from Taneda Karate Dojo say they have an average of four to seven years of experience training, yet the competition is still very tough. They look forward to hearing the placement announcements this afternoon and hope to move on to the finals.
