As the BC Winter Games drew to a close, the Fraser Valley Zone 3 team stood alone atop the medal counts.

According to the latest numbers on the BC Games results page as of Sunday evening, the host squad combined to win an incredible 103 medals – 30 gold, 33 silver and 40 bronze.

That left the Fraser Valley with a comfortable lead over runner-up Vancouver-Squamish, which won 77 total medals, but the Zone 5 team registered the most golds with 32.

In third place was Thompson-Okanagan Zone 2 with 65 medals.

Some of the highlights from Sunday's competition:

• Curling wrapped up with gold medal matches at the Mission Leisure Centre. On the boys side, the Fraser River Delta rink skipped by Richmond's Brayden Carpenter rallied to edge Vancouver-Squamish's Jay Ueda 5-4 to clinch the title. The girls champ was the Fraser Valley rink skipped by Dezaray Hawes of Anmore, which beat Prince George's Alyssa Connell and her Cariboo-North East foursome 8-1.

• The Fraser Valley female hockey team authored a thrilling 3-2 victory over Fraser River Delta in the gold medal game, behind goals from Aldergrove’s Alicia Perez, Priya Sidhu of Surrey and Alexis Kahlert of Maple Ridge.

• Thompson-Okanagan earned ringette bragging rights, beating Fraser River Delta 9-2 for gold at Matsqui Recreation Centre.

• Vancouver-Squamish clinched the team gold medal in badminton, knocking off Fraser River Delta.

The Mission 2014 BC Winter Games wrapped up with the Closing Ceremony at Mission Raceway park where participants and volunteers celebrated the close of a successful Games.
