The BC Games Society is pleased to announce that Diane St-Denis has been appointed as the Chef de Mission and Don Sharpe as the Assistant Chef de Mission for Team BC for the Wood Buffalo 2015 Western Canada Summer Games.

“Diane St-Denis and Don Sharpe are both highly qualified for their newly appointed roles in Team BC, and we are fortunate to have their leadership,” said Coralee Oakes, Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development.  “I am fully confident that they will help Team BC athletes to achieve their best and realize their potential at the upcoming Western Canada Summer Games.”

Diane St-Denis is a proven leader in the Canadian sport system with experience from community level to provincial and national organizations.  She has an extensive background in university sport and is currently the Executive Director of the Canada West Universities Athletic Association.  Previously, she was the Executive Director of Judo BC and during the lead up to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games was a communications specialist with the Canadian Olympic Committee, liaising between the COC and VANOC on issues, activities, and announcements.

As Chef de Mission, St-Denis is responsible for providing leadership to the team, overseeing team administration, logistical support, performance preparation and competition for athletes and coaches, and training and supervision of mission staff.

“I am honoured to have been selected to lead Team BC at the 2015 Western Canada Summer Games,” said St-Denis.  “It will give me great pleasure to work with a dynamic team of sport administrators and community volunteers who are committed to supporting our athletes, coaches, and managers as they aim to deliver their best performance at the Games.

Don Sharpe is the Director of Operations and Marketing for Mount Washington Alpine Resort and he brings his extensive experience managing a large staff and multiple operations.  Don had a lead role directing the activities for hosting over 200 Olympic athletes prior to the 2010 Olympics and Paralympics.  As a co-founder of the Vancouver Island Mountain Sports Society he has spearheaded initiatives to support emerging high performance athletes.

“I am very excited to join Team BC on its journey to the Western Canada Summer Games,” said Sharpe.  “I have a passion for sport and its impact on youth and our communities.  I am looking forward to assisting in getting outstanding results and in putting together a great team."
