The BC Games Society is seeking enthusiastic, experienced people to serve as volunteer Team BC Mission Staff members for the 2015 Western Canada Summer Games in Wood Buffalo, Alberta. As part of Team BC, you will lead in helping BC’s athletes have the experience of a lifetime at their respective premier multi-sport event.

Every four years, British Columbia assembles a team of athletes, coaches, managers and mission staff to represent the province at Western Canada's premiere multi-sport event - the Western Canada Summer Games. These games bi-sect the Canada Summer Games cycle and provide an opportunity for BC's top age-class athletes to test their athletic talent against the best in the west.

The 2015 Western Canada Summer Games will be held in Wood Buffalo, Alberta from August 7th to 15th, 2015. The Games will bring together approximately 2,300 athletes, coaches, managers, and officials from four provinces and three territories for ten days of high calibre multi-sport competition.

As part of the Mission Team, you will work to ensure that all aspects of Team BC’s preparation, including athlete and coach services and support (uniforms, media relations, newsletter, registration, logistics, etc) are in place for successful team performances.  This is an opportunity to play a key role in BC’s sport development system.

Mission Staff must be prepared to attend all pre-games meetings and the duration of the Games. There will be no one week positions available. The following are mandatory dates for all mission staff to expect to attend:

Team BC / PSO Planning Meetings: July 8 - 10, 2014 (in person or via conference call, Sport Mission staff only)
Mission Staff Training Retreat: October 4 - 5, 2014 - Lower Mainland
Mission Staff Retreat / PSO Coaches Meeting: June 27 - 28, 2015 - Lower Mainland
Monthly Mission Staff Conference Calls: 4:00pm - the last Thurdsay of each month
Western Canada Summer Games: August 6th to 16th, 2015 - Wood Buffalo, Alberta
Mission Staff Debrief: September 2015 - Lower Mainland (exact dates TBD)

Team BC is seeking individuals who possess strong communication and administration skills; thorough knowledge of BC’s amateur sport system; interest in and enthusiasm for working in a fast paced multi-sport environment; ability to operate independently and in a team atmosphere; ability to perform functions and duties outside of your assignment; strong interpersonal skills and an ability to provide excellent service to the assigned sports. As well, the ideal candidate will have extensive and varied experience as a volunteer, athlete or coach at a multi-sport Games and demonstrate a strong commitment to the Games movement.

Deadline for submission is Friday, May 30, 2014.
