The Nanaimo 2014 BC Summer Games kick-off July 17 and over 3200 of BC’s best emerging high performance talents have registered to take part in the four day event.

The almost 2500 athletes are from every corner of the province and have trained to earn a place to represent their zone at the Games.  Competing in 19 different sports, the athletes range in age from 11 to 18 (in able-bodied sports).  Athletes with a disability will compete in athletics, equestrian and swimming.  These athletes will be supported by over 500 coaches and 200 officials who have earned their certification in order to provide the best knowledge and expertise to the athletes and the competition.

Volunteers in Nanaimo have been preparing for the past 18 months to host the Games – the third time this community has done so.  There will be over 2800 volunteers working to ensure the participants have exceptional competition and a first-rate experience with Opening and Closing Ceremonies, special events, and wonderful hospitality.

“The future of sport in B.C. is coming to Nanaimo and we are looking forward to seeing these young athletes compete to the best of their ability,” said Kelly Mann, President and CEO of the BC Games Society.  “The BC Summer Games are the first step towards national and international level competitions where we see BC Games alumni taking centre stage.”

The BC Games has been the starting point for many athletes who have succeeded at the very highest levels of sport including Brent Hayden (2012 Olympic bronze medallist - Swimming), Carol Huynh (2008 and 2012 Olympic medallist – Wrestling) and Brett Lawrie (MLB Toronto Blue Jays).

To find out who is registered to represent your community and sport at the Games, look at the Participant List which is now available online and searchable by city, sport, and name.

PLEASE NOTE: The Participant List and numbers are subject to change until the close of the Accreditation Centre at 5:00 pm on July 17.
