Vancouver Island's Breanna Marinus won a second medal in today’s equestrian jumping competition of the BC Games.

After a clear round and a time of 66.89, the Zone 6 representative won the gold medal on her 8-year-old Canadian Warmblood mare named Bryana.

“People call us B Squared or B and B since we have the same name,” she said laughing.

Marinus lives in Campbell River and has been riding Bryana since February. She has weekly lessons with jumping coach Cheryl Keith, and worked on a lot of flat work, jumping from different angles and gymnastics to prepare for the Games.

“I was nervous,” Marinus said about her feelings heading into the competition. “I started to second guess myself, but once I got in there it just started to flow.”

Marinus is hoping to win a third medal tomorrow and will be next seen at Thunderbird Show Park at the end of August.
