Swimming: Energy on deck at the Nanaimo Aquatic Centre
If you have watched a
swim meet, especially one as exciting as the BC Summer Games, you haven’t experienced the whistle blasting, towel twirling, bell ringing
energy the swimmers generate. Each athlete hoping to touch the wall first and see number
one by their name on the screen.
I’ve been to many meets, I swam
competitively myself (a long time ago now) but haven’t enjoyed the enthusiasm I
experienced today watching the BC Summer Games at the Nanaimo Aquatic Centre.
Colorful team shirts lined the lanes each with a unique cheer. I saw coaches
whistle, some wave their arms as if they are trying to push their swimmers
forward, some twirl their towels and some just yell GO!!!! I saw tears and
cheers, high fives and hugs and got right caught up in the energy clapping and
patting backs saying “well done”.
Leaving with the smell of chlorine still
lingering on my clothes I want to congratulate all of the swimmers who kicked
their hearts out, tightened their flip turns and shaved seconds off their time.
Congratulations!
