Hundreds of volunteers in Mission and Nanaimo are busy planning for the 2014 BC Winter and BC Summer Games.

The Mission 2014 BC Winter Games will take place February 20-23 and with just over three months left to go planning is in full swing.  

On October 18, 19, and 26 Board Members and Key Chairs conducted sport venue tours.  The tour covered every venue that will be used during the 2014 BC Winter Games and was found to be extremely beneficial to all who attended. One of the highlights was visiting the Whistler venues for biathlon and cross country (photo from the venue is featured).  These venues were used during the 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, so it will be a great experience for the athletes competing in these sports.

Planning is in the early stages for the Nanaimo 2014 BC Summer Games that will take place July 17-20.  The Board held an event on October 15 to officially launch the Games and introduce opportunities for businesses to support the event through the Friends of the Games program.  A new clock that will track the days to go, number of volunteers, and amount of funds received was unveiled by Parksville-Qualicum MLA Michelle Stilwell, Nanaimo Mayor John Ruttan, Chief of the Snuneymuxw First Nation Douglas White, Games President Jeff Lott, and Vice President Bruce Hunter.  This clock will feature different top level partners and will be moved throughout the community to ensure residents are aware of the Games.
