Participants in the BC Winter Games aren't just enjoying the thrill of competition, they're also getting a lot out of being at an event that features the best young athletes in 17 different sports.

"It's really cool to see the different sports come together for the games and the atmosphere is great," said Emma Brooks, a diver from Zone 4, Surrey, after the preliminaries for the one-metre event.

Competitor Maggie Osieja, from Zone 5, Vancouver, said she too enjoys the camaraderie, but it didn't dim her view of what she travelled to Penticton for.

Having already won a bronze in the three-metre dive the day before, Osieja was intent on putting in an even better performance for the three metre event. And, she explained, medalling didn't do much to quell her nerves about the competition ahead.

"They're two different boards and you have two different lifts so everything is different," she said.

When all was said and done, however, Osieja managed to medal again.

The diving event brought together 64 athletes, 16 coaches and 10 officials.
