May 31, 2016 – Now is a great time to recognize those committed to RISING ABOVE and REACHING BEYOND the game in sport for women and girls.

A partnership between the BC Games Society and ProMotion Plus will see one leadership award presented in conjunction with the 2016 BC Summer Games. The award will identify, recognize and celebrate those who have supported girls and/or women to participate more fully in physical activity or sport.

Nominations are being accepted for the 2016 BC Summer Games ProMotion Plus Leadership Awards, open to individuals, organizations or groups in the province of British Columbia that have challenged the traditional limits for women and girls in physical activity and sport in the past two years.

“Abbotsford is a diverse sporting community and we welcome the opportunity to partner with ProMotion Plus and the BC Games Society to recognize the women and girls who are Rising Above and Reaching Beyond,” said Steve Carlton, President of the Abbotsford 2016 BC Summer Games Society. “We would like to encourage our community to nominate our champions of enhancing sport and physical activity for women and girls for this Provincial award.”

Nominations may include but are not limited to the achievements of athletes, teams, coaches, officials, administrators, or volunteers and programs or special events, which increased or enhanced opportunities for girls and women.

We ask that nominators focus on the candidate’s achievements over the past two years (2014-2016).

Nominations can be submitted online by completing the form here

Nominations will be accepted until June 30, 2016. The recipient(s) will be awarded on Friday July 22, 2016 during the BC Summer Games.

ProMotion Plus is the British Columbia organization for girls and women in physical activity and sport. It was established as a non-profit society in 1990 and was unique in Canada at the time. ProMotion Plus is still only one of three provincial organizations in Canada dedicated to increasing opportunities for girls and women in the sport and recreation delivery system.

The Abbotsford 2016 BC Summer Games will take place from July 21-24, 2016. The sport venues for the Abbotsford 2016 BC Summer Games were confirmed in October 2015. Eighteen sports will take place at a total 24 venues in Abbotsford and the surrounding area. See BCGAMES.ORG for a complete list of sports and competition venues.
