The Vancouver Island-Central Coast and Cariboo-North East squads treated fans to a thriller on Friday morning as the BC Summer Games girls volleyball competition opened.

Zakk Harman of North Vancouver soared to a gold medal Friday morning in the under-14 boys wakeboarding competition. Harman completed several tricks, including a backlfip, to top the field with a score of 70.5.

The tough competition of the Male C2 500m canoe race was hardly over before the competitors were talking and laughing together on the shore of Bedford Channel.

With Dolly Gabri in the field, the other competitors in women’s discus knew they were competing for silver.

Equestrian dressage kicked off on Friday at the Abbotsford Exhibition Centre for the Abbotsford 2016 BC Summer Games.
