Celebrating Canada’s 150th Anniversary

As we begin a new year, we are excited to join with Canadians across the country to celebrate Canada's 150th anniversary.

The BC Games and Team BC believe that sport is part of what it means to be Canadian and we are proud to have been an important part of celebrating sport and communities for close to 40 years.

In the recent Vital Signs Report on Sport and Belonging from the Community Foundations of Canada, it was reported that 85% of Canadians agree that sport participant builds stronger communities.

"Sport is woven into the very fabric of every community in Canada.  While we experience the benefits of sport most immediately as individuals, it can also play a major role in strengthening communities by bringing people together, building social capital and fostering greater inclusion of excluded groups"

"Every game we play, every match we organize, every race we run - large or small - can help build a stronger Canada for the future - a Canada where everyone belongs."

Two sport and physical activity participation programs have been identified as Canada 150 Signature Projects.

ParticipACTION 150 PlayList

ParticipACTION is encouraging all Canadians to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday by getting active! Whether you live in a remote village or a big urban centre, being outdoors is part of what it means to be Canadian. Every Canadian will be challenged to complete as many physical activities on the list as possible.

Canada Games Activity Challenge
Starting in January 2017, students age 5-12 in thousands of schools across Canada will participate in fun filled, age appropriate activities, while receiving online incentives, encouragement and educational curriculum content along the way. Special guests, alumni and government partners will help us inspire and keep Canadian children active for life.

Join the fun, get active and celebrate Canada!
