Nanaimo’s own Shirin Anjarwalla swung her way to a Gold medal finish in the girl’s individual Golf competition on Saturday afternoon, in front of a hometown crowd. Anjarwalla was tied for first place after day one, and finished the two-day tournament at 6-over par, beating out her competitors by two stokes.

The 14-year-old picked up the sport six years ago and has been golfing ever since. For now, Anjarwalla says she is just having fun competing, and eventually hopes to earn a scholarship. When asked about aspirations to turn pro, she humbly replied “she didn’t want to get ahead of herself, and just wanted to take it one step at a time.

Two golfers finished up the tournament with a combined score of 160, tying for the Silver medal. Tiffany Kong from Vancouver and Tiegan Taylor from Kelowna rounded out the top three, finishing up the day at 8-over par.
