The 2016 BC Winter Games will take place in Penticton just over one year from now.  Facilities throughout the city and area will be used to ensure athletes have the best possible competition experience.  The Penticton Community Centre, South Okanagan Events Centre and Penticton Trade and Convention Centre will be a hub of the Games with up to seven sports competing at these three facilities.  Judo and Karate will have a unique experience of competing side by side in the Trade and Convention Centre and both sports are thrilled at the prospect of competing alongside each other at the Games.

“Having both sports competing side by side at the same venue will create a real buzz and excitement from a spectator viewpoint and form an excellent showcase for both of our sports” said James Chevrette of Judo BC.

Fernando Correia, the BC Games Provincial Advisor for Karate BC, agrees with Chevrette, “The excitement and enthusiasm in the building from having us both in one place will be powerful, a great display of martial arts all in one place with lots going on throughout the day”.

Also very excited about their proposed venue is the BC Speed Skating Association.  Speed Skating is targeted to be thrilling spectators at the beautiful 5000 seat arena at the South Okanagan Events Centre.  “We are all very excited to be skating at such a premier facility. This will be great exposure for our sport and our athletes!” stated Chris Acton, Speed Skating BC’s Technical Director.

Indeed, all the proposed venues in Penticton are centrally located and top notch and the City is excited at the prospect of hosting BC’s best young athletes.  Look for the complete list of venues to be formally announced one year out from the Games.
