New Members named to BC Games Society Board

 
 

The BC Games Society announced today the appointment of five new members to the Board of Directors.  The new members include Paralympian Richard Peter (Vancouver), Mental Performance Consultant Veronica Planella (Victoria), educator and coach, Pansy Wright-Simms (Hazelton), multi-sport games leader, Wayne Naka (Nelson), and volunteer, coach and esteemed athlete Charles Bruce (Kamloops). 

“I’d like to congratulate the BC Games Society on these new board appointments,” said Lisa Beare, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture. “I know their leadership and experience will be instrumental in helping the Society achieve its vision and goals and supporting B.C.’s young athletes as they strive for excellence.”

Key Planning underway for Fort St. John 2020 BC Winter Games

 
 

Spirits were high in Fort St. John on April 12 as over 120 community leaders gathered to celebrate at the Key Volunteer Rally for the Fort St. John 2020 BC Winter Games. The event marked a major milestone in the planning process, as it provided an opportunity for all of the Presidents, Liaisons, Directors and Chairs from the host community, to meet together for the first time. 

The following day, sport partners and the host society got together for the Host Community Sport meeting where Sport Chairs had a chance to meet their Provincial Sport Organization counterparts and begin the planning process for the sport competitions.

Sport Venues confirmed for 2020 BC Summer Games

 
 

In just over one year Maple Ridge will host the 2020 BC Summer Games with up to 2800 athletes and 900 coaches and officials competing in 18 sports and the sport venues for each of the 18 sports have now been confirmed. 

The City of Maple Ridge has embarked on many facility upgrades over the past few years including the new Golden Ears synthetic field, and an extensive retrofit of the pool at the Maple Ridge Leisure Centre set to open later this summer.

  Lia's Farewell  
 

Lia Threlfall to take on new role in sport

 
 

Lia Threlfall's passion for sport and vision for strategic communications has led to her recognition as a leader in the sport sector.  As of April 25, Lia will be leaving her position as Communications Manager with the BC Games Society to assume the role as Sport Consultant-Event Hosting with the Sport Division of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.

Lia’s impact on the BC Winter and BC Summer Games and the society is long and far-reaching and she has set the organization up for continued success in the future.

While she will be greatly missed at the BC Games Society, we know that her skills, talent, experience, and passion for sport will continue to impact the B.C. sport sector in her new role.
