December 2014

2014 has been a successful year with the hosting of the Mission 2014 BC Winter Games and the Nanaimo 2014 BC Summer Games.  2016 seems a long way off, but planning will begin in earnest in Penticton and Abbotsford in the new year for our 2016 Games.  We also look forward to 2015 and the Canada Winter Games hosted for the first time in British Columbia. Team BC will bring a team of 350 athletes, coaches, and mission staff to Prince George, February 13 to March 1.

The City of Penticton will host the 2016 BC Winter Games.  The very first BC Games were held in this great sport hosting city in 1978 and in February 2016, the BC Games are coming back for four action packed days of competition between the best young athletes in the province.  See the new promo video now on YouTube.

Alumni elected in municipal vote

Vote

We often refer to BC Games alumni as those athletes who go on to excel at the highest levels of competition in their sports.  But, there is another group of alumni who have served as volunteers at the BC Games and are now making important leadership contributions.  As many as 14 BC Games volunteer alumni were elected to positions in the municipal vote in November.

Provincial Games Meetings

Ottawa

BC Games staff traveled to Ottawa to meet with representatives from provincial multi-sport Games across the country including the Alberta Games, Saskatchewan Games, Manitoba Games, Ontario Games, and the Canada Games Council.  It was a valuable day of information sharing and exchange and building connections between the organizations delivering provincial multi-sport Games across Canada.

The Denise Coutts Memorial Scholarship was founded in November 2014 after the sudden loss of Denise to gynecological cancer. Denise was a pillar in the sport community and non-profit sector and an advocate for all women and girls.

Each year, two female student-athletes will be selected to receive a scholarship of $500 to pursue their post-secondary education.
