January 2014

In five short weeks, BC’s best young athletes will meet in Mission for the 2014 BC Winter Games. Planning is in full swing with volunteers busy making final preparations to treat the athletes to an experience of a lifetime.

All of the participants must be registered by their Provincial Sport Organization by January 20. Lists of all athletes, coaches, and officials will be available online after January 27 and can be searched by sport and hometown.

Participants and their families can find out everything they need to know by visiting BCGAMES.ORG. Check out the Guide to the Games now posted online, as well as the Frequently Asked Questions pages under the Participants tab.

G2G Sessions

G2G

Prior to the BC Winter Games, G2G (Guide to the Games) sessions are offered in 11 communities throughout the province. Athletes, coaches, officials and their families are invited to attend to learn and prepare for what to expect at the BC Winter Games. The Games can be an overwhelming event so the more information athletes have ahead of time will help maximize the experience.  The sessions are free of charge but pre-registration is required.

Fuel an Athlete

Fuel an Athelte

Save-on-Foods and the Mission 2014 BC Winter Games are teaming up to Fuel an Athlete. From January 11 to February 23 donations are being collected at the Mission Save-On-Foods location to assist with the cost of feeding athletes at the Games. Anyone providing a donation will receive a snowflake icon to place on the wall at the store and together create a snowfall for the BC Winter Games!

Volunteer Profile - 2014 BC Winter Games

Mission Volunteer

Volunteers like Carol Hamilton are signing up and getting ready for the BC Winter Games.  “I’ve lived in this community for 38 years, and this is my third term as a school trustee. When you’ve lived here as long as I have, you want to give back to the community, its schools and the kids. Mission has given me so much,” said Hamilton.  Read Carol's profile.

Over 1000 people have signed up to volunteer with more still needed.  Volunteers can register online.

The Mission City Record and Black Press are telling the stories of BC Winter Games including volunteers like Carol and participants from across BC.  You can read all about the Games on the Black Press - BC Winter Games site.
