February 2015

This month, the eyes of the nation will be on British Columbia and the hosting of the Canada Winter Games in Prince George, February 13 to March 1.  The BC Games Society manages the Team BC program which ensures British Columbia's team of 348 athletes, coaches, managers and mission staff have the very best experience possible at this marquee multi-sport Games.

Are you Ready?

British Columbia is sending a contingent of 348 athletes, coaches, managers, and mission staff to the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George. BC Games alumni feature prominently and represent 55% of the team. 141 athletes have previously competed at a BC Winter or BC Summer Games with an additional 30 coaches, 11 managers, and eight mission staff members who are also alumni. Each alumni brings with them the valuable experience of having competed within a multi-sport environment.

The team is assembled and ready for the challenge. Work is underway as the members of the Penticton 2016 BC Winter Games Board of Directors have been appointed.

“Let the Games begin, again,” said Bill Bidlake, President of the 2016 BC Winter Games Organizing Committee. "We are so excited for the Games to return to our great city. Penticton has so generously hosted the BC Summer Games in 1978 and 1995, in addition to hosting the BC Winter Games in 1990. Next year will be the fourth time that our citizens will have hosted the BC Games. The volunteers in this community are amazing."

Penticton Trade and Convention Centre

The 2016 BC Winter Games will take place in Penticton just over one year from now. Facilities throughout the city and area will be used to ensure athletes have the best possible competition experience. The Penticton Community Centre, South Okanagan Events Centre, and Penticton Trade and Convention Centre will be a hub of the Games with up to seven sports competing at these three facilities. Judo and Karate will have a unique experience of competing side by side in the Trade and Convention Centre and both sports are thrilled at the prospect of competing alongside each other at the Games.
