July 2015

The #YearofSport in Canada is certainly in high gear.  The Canadian National Women's soccer team and BC Games alumna Karina LeBlanc made us all proud during the FIFA World Cup.  We now turn our attention to watching our alumni compete on home soil at the 2015 Pan Am Games.  In one year, it will be the next generation who are the ones to watch at the 2016 BC Summer Games in Abbotsford.

51 Alumni at Pan Am Games

Pan Am Games

More than 150 BC athletes are set to attend the 2015 Toronto Pan Am Games over the next two weeks as part of Team Canada.  On their path to excellence, 77 (50%) of these BC athletes have also competed at the BC Games or represented Team BC at the Canada Games or Western Canada Summer Games.  51 athletes have previously attended the BC Games and 25 athletes have been part of both the BC Games and Team BC including Cam Levins (Athletics), Hillary Caldwell (Swimming), Nikola Girke (Sailing) and Nathan Hirayama (Rugby).

Coast Capital Savings Bursary Update

CCS Group

It has been one year since the 2014 BC Summer Games in Nanaimo. At the Closing Ceremony of those Games, 16 outstanding athletes were recognized with a Coast Capital Savings Athlete Bursary award in the amount of $500.

The athletes have continued to pursue their chosen sports at school and in their local clubs and many are competing provincially. The bursary funds have been used for equipment purchases, registration fees, coaching and have been put into savings for future education.

BC School Sports Partnership

BC School Sports

The BC Games Society and BC School Sports are leaders in providing opportunities for the development of athletes and coaches in British Columbia. These two organizations have formalized a new partnership which will see a coordinated effort to capitalize on joint initiatives for the benefit of our shared audiences.

“Both the BC School Sports Board of Directors and staff look forward to a strong relationship with BC Games Society to enhance and grow opportunities for youth in British Columbia,” said Christine Bradstock, Executive Director of BC School Sports. “The BC Winter and Summer Games showcase the best of BC and BC School Sports is proud to be a supporter and partner of the Society.”
