Our wonderful coaches were celebrated last month during National Coaches Week and we launched the Coach Mentorship Program to give more coaches the opportunity to learn.  The 2016 BC Games are on the horizon with planning well underway in Penticton and Abbotsford.  The countdown is on!

Coaches across Canada were recognized during the first annual National Coaches Week, Sept 19-27.  This week was an opportunity to recognize coaches for the integral role they play by simply saying #ThanksCoach.

The BC Games and Team BC profiled five outstanding coaches who have contributed to the development of many athletes through our events.  Meet these coaches and read about their journeys, inspiration, and goals.

Coach Mentorship Program

Coach Mentor

The BC Games Mentorship Program is a partnership between ViaSport and the BC Games Society and is designed to assist coaches in enhancing and developing their coaching skills in pursuit of higher levels of coaching certification.

The deadline for applications for the 2016 BC Winter Games is October 30.

 

2016 BC Summer Games Venues Announced

Track and Field

The sport venues for the 2016 BC Summer Games have been confirmed with18 sport competitions taking place at 24 venues in Abbotsford and the surrounding area.

Abbotsford previously host the BC Summer Games in 2004 and since then has added and improved venues including Rotary Stadium and MRC Sports Complex.  Games Funding Partners, the University of the Fraser Valley and the Abbotsford School District will also host events including indoor volleyball, basketball and wrestling.

Up to 3600 athletes, coaches and officials will take part in the 2016 BC Summer Games, July 21-24.

 
 

Welcome Minister Fassbender and Parliamentary Secretary Hogg

Welcome to Minister Peter Fassbender who was appointed as Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development on July 30.  Also appointed to a new position is Gordon Hogg who will be the Parliamentary Secretary for Youth Sport within the Ministry.  The BC Games Society and Team BC look forward to working with Minister Fassbender and Mr. Hogg.

BC Winter Games Torchlighting

Torchlighting

Join the excitement as Penticton counts down to the 2016 BC Winter Games with the Torchlighting Ceremony on November 12.

Come to the South Okanagan Events Centre Plaza (outside event) to see the torchbearers run the flame in and light up the cauldron. Live entertainment, music, and more.

2017 Canada Summer Games

The 2017 Canada Summer Games will be hosted in Winnipeg celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Canada Games and Canada's 150th birthday.  It will be the hottest summer in half a century.
