What's Expected of Games Spectators and Partners
The BC Games Society is committed to providing a sport, work, and volunteer environment in which all individuals are treated with respect and dignity. Each individual has the right to participate and work in an environment which promotes equal opportunities and prohibits discriminatory practices. The BC Games Society will not tolerate acts of harassment, abuse, bullying, hazing, or other such behaviours. Exemplary conduct is expected of everyone associated with the Games.

All partners, spectators, and fans are expected to conduct themselves, at all times, in the spirit of fair play and in a responsible manner.

Attendance at the Games entitles you to enjoy an exhibition of skill developed by athletes, led by coaches, and guided by officials in an environment that unique to the community and volunteers who have come together to the stage the Games.

Spectators, partners, family, and fans are expected to:
  • Be respectful and encouraging in their approach to ALL athletes, officials, coaches, volunteers, as well as fellow spectators.
  • Show all volunteers, athletes, coaches, officials, parents, partners, and all other spectators the same respect they would want in return.
  • Cheer for all athletes in a positive manner, modeling good sportsmanship, and fair play.
  • Treat all other participants fairly within the context of their activity, regardless of gender, ethnic background, color, sexual orientation, religion, political belief, or economic status.
  • Present any protest or disagreements via the correct avenue and in a respectful manner.
  • Respect and adhere to the rules and policies of the BC Games Society and the respective sport.
  • Promote respect and appreciation for all coaches, officials and volunteers at any event or practice, and encourage others to do so.
  • Thank officials after each event and encourage others to do so as well.
  • Respect the privacy and dignity of others by not divulging confidential information without consent, except where required by law.
  • Model sportsmanship, respect, and courtesy.
  • Have realistic expectations for performance outcomes.
  • Not demean or ridicule any athlete who has not met their performance expectation.
  • Not use physical force, or engage in verbal abuse, or violent acts of any kind.
  • Not use or advocate or condone the use of drugs or other banned or performance enhancing substances.
  • Not provide others with drugs and will not provide those who are underage with alcohol or tobacco products.
  • Not coach any athlete during an event, unless you are the team coach for that athlete.
  • Not intrude into the competition area.
  • Ensure the safety of others and themselves.
  • Conduct themselves in a positive and supportive manner.
  • Abide by the laws of BC and of the city in which the Games is taking place.
  • Refrain from public criticism of volunteers, staff, and/or other participants.
  • Refrain from the use of profane, insulting, harassing, or otherwise offensive language.
  • Respect the dignity of others.  Verbal or physical behaviours that constitute harassment or abuse are unacceptable.
  • Refrain from using tobacco products within the competition arena and/or competition area.
