Snowboarding was invented in the United States in the 1960’s and can be attributed to Sherman Poppen from Michigan who invented a toy for his daughters by fastening two skies together so they could glide downhill.  This original “snurfer” was incredibly popular and inspired new developers to take the idea further and design what is now known as the snowboard.  The sport was considered “rebellious” and was not allowed at many ski resorts in the 1980’s.
