Team BC

The BC Games Society manages the Team BC program, which assembles a team of athletes, coaches, managers and mission staff to represent the province at the Canada Winter Games, Canada Summer Games, and Western Canada Summer Games.

The Canada Games are a national multi-sport competition with participation from every province and territory in Canada and take place on an alternating summer/winter cycle every four years  The Western Canada Summer Games are managed by the Western Canada Summer Games Council and funded by the participating provinces and territories.  They are held very four years. 

The Team BC program is more than British Columbia's best; it is also about building excellence.  For some athletes, competing at these premiere competitions are a goal along the way to what they hope will be success in sport at major multi-sport Games including Olympic and Paralympic Games.  For others, it is the goal, their personal dream.  Team BC is also about getting to know other Canadians and building a lifetime of memories.

Team BC represents the best athletes, BC's collective sport system, and the contribution to healthy, active lifestyles.

Team BC Mission Staff


The BC Games Society is seeking enthusiastic, experienced people to serve as volunteer Team BC Mission Staff for the 2015 Western Canada Summer Games in Wood Buffalo, Alberta.  The submission deadline is May 30, 2014.

As part of Team BC, Mission Staff help BC’s athletes have the experience of a lifetime at their respective premier multi-sport event and will work to ensure that all aspects of Team BC’s preparation, including athlete and coach services and support (uniforms, media relations, newsletter, registration, logistics, etc.) are in place for successful team performances. 

Mission staff will work with the following Team BC leadership team:

  • Chef de Mission – Diane St-Denis  
  • Assistant Chef de Mission – Don Sharpe
  • Operations Manager – Jarret Poitras
  • Communications Manager – Lia Threlfall
  • Performance Manager – Peter Saar

Mission staff candidates have strong communication and administration skills, an understanding of BC’s amateur sport system, interest in and enthusiasm for working in a fast paced multi-sport environment, the ability to operate independently and in a team atmosphere, the skills to perform functions and duties outside of your assignment, strong interpersonal skills, and an ability to provide excellent service to the assigned sports.  As well, the ideal candidates will have previous experience as a volunteer, athlete, or coach at a multi-sport Games and demonstrate a strong commitment to the Games movement.

Mission Staff must be prepared to attend all pre-Games meetings and the duration of the Games.  Expenses related to Mission Staff involvement will be covered by the BC Games Society (including travel, accommodation, meals, ceremonial uniform package, etc.). One-week positions will not be available. The following are mandatory dates for all Mission Staff to expect to attend:
